LONDON, June 30, 2025 – Leading international law firm Proskauer is pleased to announce that partner Philip Bowden has been named in Financial News’ Fifty Most Influential Lawyers in Europe list for 2025.
Last published in 2023, the list recognizes the top legal professionals working in Europe.
Philip Bowden is co-head of the Global Finance practice, head of London’s Leveraged Finance team and a member of the Firm’s Private Capital industry group. He has extensive experience representing commercial and investment banks, private credit funds and corporate borrowers across a range of debt products, specializing in leveraged acquisition finance, structured finance and investment grade event driven acquisition financings.
Recently, Philip has been involved in a number of high-profile transactions, including advising (together with Megan Lawrence) the arrangers, lenders and agents in connection with the recent best efforts TLB €1.205 billion refinancing of Personal & Informatik (P&I) AG’s existing debt. Previously, he advised the mandated lead arrangers on the senior secured financing for the landmark £31 billion Virgin Media/O2 UK joint venture.
Together with Justin Breen, joint co-head of the Global Finance practice, Philip is a driving force behind the global expansion of Proskauer’s finance platform—ensuring that the public and private market aspects of Proskauer’s leveraged finance offering are not just aligned, but fully integrated to meet clients where the market is headed. At a time when financial sponsors are increasingly running private credit and bank-led processes in parallel, Proskauer stands apart by bridging private credit, broadly syndicated lending, and high-yield markets with precision and depth. Philip and his team sit right at the intersection of these trends, delivering tailored, cross-market solutions that few other teams can.
Philip joined Proskauer in July 2024 from A&O Shearman (formerly Allen & Overy), where he was co-head of Global Banking for eight years and prior to that was co-head of their Global Leveraged Finance practice. He joined alongside Megan Lawrence, also from A&O Shearman, as part of the firm’s strategic growth in banking and finance to complement its established private credit offering. In addition to Philip and Megan, this growth strategy saw Jake Keaveny, Warren Newton, and Court Tisdale join from Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, and John Goldfinch join from A&O Shearman in late 2024, while restructuring and special situations partner Clare Cottle joined in March 2025 from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
