James R. Lacy

James R. Lacy is an associate in the Corporate Department, and a member of the Private Funds Group.

James advises both emerging and established private investment fund managers across various aspects of their businesses, including fundraising and formation, creation of co-investment funds and managed accounts, regulatory compliance, and fund investments. He has experience with a variety of strategies, including buyout, venture capital, growth capital, real estate, and private credit.

James also advises clients on the establishment and maintenance of general partner and management company entities, including operational considerations and the implementation of carried interest programs, succession planning, separation arrangements, and other upper tier matters. 

James also represents banking institution placement agents in connection with investments by their high-net-worth retail clients into private funds across different strategies.

James completed a secondment at PineBridge Investments in 2022, supporting PineBridge’s U.S. Alternatives platform, with a focus on its private credit practice, during which he gained valuable insight into the business and legal needs of private equity sponsors.

Before Proskauer, James was an associate in the Private Funds Group at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett LLP. 

James earned a B.A., cum laude, from Hamilton College, and a J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law.
