Jake Butwin is an associate in the Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s Sports Law Group. He represents clients across a wide range of industries and is experienced in all stages of litigation, from pre-litigation counseling through trial.
Jake devotes a substantial portion of his practice to representing and advising sports leagues, teams and other clients active in the sports business. He has been a member of litigation and trial teams in numerous sports-related matters across the country, including most recently in Major League Soccer’s successful defense of an antitrust suit brought by the North American Soccer League. Following a three-week trial, a 10-member jury delivered a full defense verdict, rejecting NASL’s proposed relevant market definition as a threshold issue. Jake is also the secretary of the Litigation Subcommittee of the NYCBA’s Sports Law Committee.
Jake earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Duke University, where he was a captain of the men’s varsity soccer team. Before law school, Jake worked for a global investment bank.
