Eric Wertheim counsels clients in complex commercial disputes, often relating to an acquisition, asset management or a joint venture. In this capacity, he is regularly engaged to successfully resolve matters through pre-trial motion practice or trial, when necessary. Eric frequently works with expert witnesses to develop clear and effective testimony on damages, forensic accounting and valuations.
As a member of the Commercial Real Estate Litigation Group, Eric represents leading real estate investment firms and international hospitality companies navigating a wide range of matters including manager/member disputes, acquisitions, financings and foreclosure proceedings. He has experience litigating at all stages of the process, including initial pleadings, discovery, summary judgment and trial.
Eric is also a member of the International Arbitration Group. He represents multinational corporations in cross-border disputes arising out of acquisitions and joint ventures, among other things. Eric recently played a critical role in obtaining an 8-figure award in an arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration related to fraudulent inducement in the purchase of a company.
Before joining Proskauer, Eric earned his J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law where he was an associate editor of the Northwestern University Law Review. During law school, he participated in Northwestern’s Bluhm Legal Clinic Center on Wrongful Convictions, working with clients seeking post-conviction relief based on claims of actual innocence. Eric also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Mary Rowland at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
