Since 2006, Proskauer has partnered with the to help lead the non-partisan Election Protection hotline (866-Our-Vote). This election cycle, Proskauer will once again lead the Midwest call center, in collaboration with the legal departments of a number of corporate clients.
On Election Day alone, our volunteers will staff over 70 shifts, contributing more than 315 hours of volunteer time. These efforts will supplement the shifts already completed in the weeks leading up to Election Day, ensuring voters receive assistance at various stages, from registration to mail-in voting to voting in-person on Election Day.
Supporting Voters on the Frontlines
The Election Protection Call Center serves as a crucial resource for voters with questions or challenges at the polls. Proskauer volunteers are essential to the call center’s success. Working alongside other attorneys from across the nation, our volunteers will offer real-time assistance to voters who encounter obstacles, such as registration issues, questions about ID requirements or problems with polling place accessibility. Volunteers are trained to quickly analyze legal issues and provide guidance that can mean the difference between a voter being turned away at the polls and having their voice heard. In addition, volunteers help identify and compile reports of long lines, voter intimidation and electioneering activities in and around polling sites, which is relayed to on-the-ground teams across the country.
Pro Bono Commitment in Action
For many of Proskauer’s volunteers, Election Protection is a long-term commitment. Attorneys return year after year, driven by a shared dedication to safeguarding the democratic process. These volunteers devote long hours, often fielding calls from early in the morning until polls close, while using their legal expertise to address issues that voters are facing.
Proskauer’s involvement in the Election Protection Call Center provides not only a vital public service, but also an enriching experience for its volunteers. For many, participating in this initiative is a deeply rewarding way to use their legal skills to make a direct impact on one of the most fundamental rights in a democracy — the right to vote.
